IVF Blastocyst Transfer ( Day 5)

The success rate of IVF and ICSI treatments may be improved by delaying the embryo transfer until 5-6 days after egg collection. Such an embryo that has developed 5-6 days after fertilization is called a blastocyst.

Benefits: The decision to transfer blastocysts depends on the number and quality of embryos available three days after egg collection. If the laboratory team are unable to select the best two embryos for embryo transfer because there are a large number of rapidly developing, good quality embryos on day 3, they may suggest delaying the embryo transfer to day 5 or day 6.
